ProGrip Skid System

Background & Application

A large proportion of oil rigs in the North Sea use a ‘bladder’ rig skidding system. As any rig manager will tell you these bladder systems are renowned for being highly unpredictable whilst moving the derrick and very expensive when it comes to replacing the bladders or carrying out frame maintenance and repairs.

Low Cost Hydraulics have designed and developed the modern ProGrip Jack Skid System to completely replace the outdated and inferior Bardex style ‘bladder’ skid systems with no need to make any changes or adjustments to the existing skid beams.

Main Advantages

The ProGrip Skid System was originally designed as a much needed upgrade from the Bardex hose bladder systems. The main advantage of the ProGrip Skid System is it’s size to load handling ratio. With a compact hydraulic piston arrangement, the system can be designed and manufactured to suit any rail dimensions and to handle loads of up to 30,000Te, whilst still retaining a relatively small footprint.

The ProGrip rig skidding system not only increases the efficiency of the skidding process but a brand new, fully installed system costs less than the refurbishment of an existing bladder system.

Being designed with longevity in mind, the system is fully enclosed to limit any corrosion.

Not only is longevity built into every aspect of the ProGrip Skid Systems, but the entire system can be disassembled by our expert service engineers in as little as 40 minutes, making the ProGrip system the easiest and most cost effective skid system to maintain and repair in the North Sea.

Operators of the ProGrip Skid System benefit from significant reductions in skidding times. This coupled with the greater load handling to size ratio, means that operators who have chosen to retrofit the ProGrip Skid System, make substantial savings on the operational costs of oil rigs.

Bespoke Service

Because of the versatility of the design, the ProGrip Skid System can be manufactured to suit your specific requirements such as working load, rail sizes and anchor connections. The system truly is a universal fit. We can even supply a dedicated HPU and controls should it be needed.

Quality Guaranteed

Our Quality Management System is certified to the following standards by a UKAS accredited body:

  • BS EN ISO 9001:2015
  • BS EN ISO 14001:2015
  • BS OHSAS 18001:2007

Low Cost Hydraulics can produce comprehensive supplier document packages (SDRL’s) to incorporate all aspects of purchasing, manufacturing and testing. This includes CE marking procedures.

Safety is paramount and by designing and manufacturing products of high quality, safety risks are minimised. That’s why each ProGrip system is extensively quality checked throughout design, development and manufacture.

The following pertinent points have been identified as being integral to the excellent quality of the ProGrip Skid System.
